Description

Where is it darkest with no dawn? Where do the stars go out? Where do bravery and hope fail? Where do wisdom and intelligence give out? Where is that an innocent heart or pure intentions won't save you? Where do your worst fears take root, manifest, fester, and provoke you to unsettling outcomes?

In your nightmares.

Meet the Nightmare Senshi... They don't mean you any harm, really. But like all living things, they need certain types of energy to live. Not the sun, not your life energy, not even your precious pure hearts or sailor crystals. No. They need your positive dream energy.

(left to right)

Sailor Loneliness

Knowing the way the world works, how the people in in work, how the interactions work... None of it matters. Because Kanashimi is alone. Always alone. No one to care, no one to miss his absence, no one to even notice the sea which has sprung forth from the amount of tears he has cried for so many years alone in the darkness... If only he could gain some wisdom energy; to know that not all things end because of a lack of interaction. Perhaps he'll borrow some from you. However, you might find yourself without a friend to call your own if he does. All alone.

Sailor Hopeless

One day. One day it will all work out. Void only has to hold on for one more day. But will that day ever come? Time goes by, that day never comes... The poor soul loses hope and all looks bleak. What's the point, anymore? Why keep these dreams so beautiful and full of hope when everything is bleak and holds no more promise than a blade of grass, here one day and burnt in a fire tomorrow? Void knows no more hope. All will fade away. But would you offer him a shred? Even if it means sacrificing your own? You'll find yourself at the end of a dream where no matter what you do, you cannot win, cannot survive, cannot get out no matter where you go or how long you hold on. It's all over, and you lost.

Sailor Uncertainty

Did she do the right thing? What if Lumi made the wrong choice? What if she went the wrong way, trusted the wrong people, gave the wrong advice? What if all of this is the wrong thing? How many lives will she have just ruined? Is it worth it to choose at all if the outcomes might be horrific? If things just go on unchanged, will it be better? Because change might mean she chose wrong... Lumi's bravery is fading fast. She needs a friend to restore her trust in herself and who she is; to give her some new reason to blast forward in some direction. ANY direction! But if you give her your bravery, what will happen to you? Well... you might run. And never stop. And every time you turn around, you'll be unsure, avoiding the next conflict, the next interaction, the next decision... You'll lose your self.

Sailor Unknown

Monsters are unknown to mankind. They have been for decades. No one understands them. No one trusts them. If it's unknown, it is to be feared. No amount of intelligence or quick thinking can save you from something you know nothing about. There is no greater enemy to intellect than not knowing what you're up against. Something is coming, but you don't know the severity, or the vastness, or how it will effect things. You don't know how to combat it, you don't even have a clue. You don't know where to run, or if running will even do any good. Because the monster is coming, and it cannot be stopped.

Sailor Helplessness

For all of her power, this fairy cannot save anyone. She can intervene, but not do the saving. For all of her extra abilities, for all of the wonders she can bestow, she cannot do anything on her own. So what good is she? Dropped in the middle of a bad situation, she can't do a thing. She can't fight, she can't defend, she can't run. She can do nothing. She's helpless. An innocent and pure heart used to tied her over, as she shared her love with people who needed it, and it encouraged them to do their best, fight the fights, and carry on. But now that heart has grown dim, and her love is cold and alone. She can do no more. And if she borrows yours, it will be as though you are a small and insignificant being who cannot affect a soul. Your actions will not change the outcome, so why bother. Cower, and cringe, and wait for the end to come swiftly.

If you can name all five characters these senshi are based on, and where they're from, you win an internet cookie.

No, I don't expect to place in Pandana's contest. Others did better in both the art department and in the specifics department. But I wanted to participate, and the prompt was to analyze what makes you afraid and pour it into senshi form.

Where I live removes me from fears that would be more prominent in places like cities. And my position as head of household makes me have to face "normal" fears on a regular basis with a regulated amount of disgust instead of fear.

What scares me? Not being able to protect my children. Not being in control of their protection. Not being in control of the weather and being sure of if my house is safe from the more severe versions of it. But, to a degree, I HAVE to deal with all of those things. I HAVE to show bravery against them.

Where do I find myself trembling with fear? Unable to stand strong? Unable to steel my heart against my worst worries and troubles? In my dreams. Those who know me know. Nothing can give me more anxiety than a horrible dream where there's no way out, no way to win, no way to survive, no way to save everyone. The worst of the worst becomes real, in my dreams. THAT is where I find myself paralyzed by fear. And there's no rescuers from your own mind's shadows.

Edit: Alright, so two of the three characters have been called out by commentators. No one's gonna site the other three? I know the one's a little obscure, but... It WAS part of a game that was worked on by a chunk of the crew from Sonic Team. A little known game, granted, but still. Hence the inclusion.
