Next year, I'm closing my ebay shop to Christmas Shoppers. I'm going to put a big-ol' "IF YOU'RE BUYING A CHRISTMAS PRESENT, I DON'T WANT YOUR BUSINESS, SO GO AWAY!" sign on my store. Since January has started, I've had nothing but bitchy complaint after bitchy complaint. "I ordered this in November and just realized today that I never got it." After almost two months? "I ordered two of these and only received one." Well, since the one you ordered NEVER SELLS, I happen to remember your order, and yes, both items were packaged together. So don't be a dick. "I never received this." The tracking number says you did. "I didn't know this was a homemade piece of crap! I want a refund!" Do you not know how to read either? It says "HANDMADE" real big in the title, in the description, by the fact that there's no packaging whatsoever in the photo... Oh, and the page also says, at the top, "No returns accepted for this item." So again, learn to fucking read.
But today was the ringer. You know those EQG themed Jem designs I did a while back? I made shirts of them! They were really cool! I even got the Shana one signed by everyone at this year's JemCon! Well, back in November, someone ordered three, and I was charging, like, $25 for each of these things. So I was blown away and called my brother, who went with me to JemCon. While we were talking, the buyer bought the fourth design. Then a duplicate of one of them, totally five. Well, I HAVE five designs, so I figured this duplicate must be a mistake. So I messaged the person and said, "Hey, I have these five designs, and you've purchased four of them and a duplicate. Do you want me to just swap the duplicate for the fifth design?" But I never heard back from the buyer. Instead, a few minutes later, the person purchased the fifth design as well, making the total six shirts. I was blown away.
And it says in the description that they're made to order, so I had to make a special trip out to buy blank shirts in the appropriate sizes. They were also the only shirts I've ever sold. I took them down after Christmas because I figured if people weren't buying them when the movie had just come out, or for Christmas, then they weren't going to buy them. So this fellow with the multiple shirts was the ONLY instance of my selling them online. I sent them all in one big box, as Priority Mail so they would get there quickly and safely. Tracking also, of course.
Time has gone by.
TODAY, almost the END OF JANUARY... I get multiple notices from PayPal about a disputed being opened on each one of the shirts, saying that the buyer never authorized them.
. . . Really? NOW? From mid NOVEMBER?!?! And *checks email again* Yeah, only five claims have been filed. There were six shirts purchased. So what, did they decide they only liked the one and bullshit on the other five? It's kinda late for that, isn't it?!?!
Oh, but it gets better. Since it's beyond 60 days, ebay won't bring up record of it for me to provide the information about the transaction. At first, I thought I was screwed for finding a tracking number, but fortunately, paypal keeps longer records than ebay, and I was able to find the particular tracking number there. The next problem? USPS seems to only keep tracking number/delivery status on their website as an active thing for a certain amount of time. So if you visit usps.com and put in the tracking number for this order, it turns up an error because, gee, it's been more than 60 days!!!!! So other than my recounting all of this for paypal, (including transaction numbers and tracking numbers and dates), what proof can I ACTUALLY have that all of this occurred? Uh, well... I have the message I sent to the buyer about would they like me to swap the duplicate for the fifth design, but there was never a response received, so what good would that do? (Except to look at the time stamp of the message and the time stamp of the last transaction.)
Sigh. So I'm super frustrated. I have to hope paypal has a head on their shoulders and sees past this bullshit. I'm sure they see it all the time. But it's the principle of the matter, you know?! What kind of bullshit is this buyer trying to pull?! I put a lot of time into those designs, and a lot of time traveling to get the right size and color shirts, and more time MAKING them!
And for that matter, how come the whole rest of the year my buyers are nice, but let the Christmas season hit and suddenly all the assholes come to my store?! What the fuck? I mean, hell, I've worked retail my whole life, and this is bullshit even by those standards. People need to stop sucking so much.
OOP! Nope, here's the sixth case open. It just took an additional hour. Yay.

Flappy Flicky mini dev log
I missed doing this live, but y'all probably would have been sick of me by now. When I was a kid, I took a VHS box of Disney's Fantasia and a piece of paper, sat down, and attempted to duplicate the frame of the alligator dancing with the hippo. "Okay, this is kinda oval shaped... This line goes out about twice as far... This line connects here... There's a curve at the end..." Look left to real art, look right to drawing and attempt to duplicate. It was the first real artwork of any quality I had ever done. When I got older, I would sit with my comic books (and later Manga) and do the same. I would practice drawing a certain character over and over to learn how their lines flowed. Eventually, I could draw some characters completely by heart - so that was nice, but it was only in the poses I had practiced. I took drawing classes at school. I took art specific electives. They taught you things like perspective, and shading a sphere, and color families, and how to draw still life
Wake Up: Shipping Can Hurt
So there's this image getting retweeted about OCxCanon isn't hurting anyone. GUESS WHAT? Yeah, it is. I saw the retweet and said “I’m not getting involved”, hit “mute this person” and moved on. Then I went and did errands. It continued to gnaw at me. So here I am, back home, with my two cents. I have an OC I ship with a canon character. So I’m for it. BUT. PLEASE, all caps, PLEASE do not perpetuate that it “doesn’t hurt anyone”. Just because a group of people can collectively decide something does NOT make it a truth. My neighbor and her family are all convinced the world is flat, but that doesn’t make it true. The fact of the matter is, seeing other people’s OCs interacting with canon characters in romantic ways, in flirtatious ways, in sensual ways, and in sexual ways CAN BE mentally and emotionally damaging to some fans. So saying it “does no harm” is completely false. By everyone jumping on the bandwagon of “yay! More OCxCanon!” the amount of it in certain fandoms has

If you wanna look at a tracking number that's over 60 days old. Go to your local post office, they can look it up for you and print it off. Or if you let me know, I'll get it for you while I'm at work and send you a copy of it by scanning it and emailing you!
